A Quick Guide to Nice, France

The city of Nice is considered to be the capital of the French Riviera region and has a reputation for being a cosmopolitan city. The city is popular with tourists thanks to the excellent weather, great beaches and the variety of attractions.
The restaurants in the city serve a variety of cuisines from around the world but there are also plenty that specialise in local dishes. Visitors can choose fine dining or simpler options, as there is something to suit everyone. Café culture is thriving in Nice and many people choose to sit on the pavement outside the café and watch the world go by while they are having their lunch.
The older part of the city is a must-see for tourists. This part consists of narrow streets and small independent stores. This is one of the trendiest areas of the city and sights not to be missed include the Cathédrale de Ste-Réparate. Visitors should also take in the Palais Lascaris which is home to a museum.
The market is particularly popular and sells all kinds of produce from fruits to desserts. There is a flea market each Monday which is known for antiques and clothes. On Saturdays at the Place du Palais de Justice it is possible to see a book market taking place which is popular with students and tourists.
Nice’s long and stony beach in front of the world-famous Promenade Des Anglais is hugely popular and can be very busy in Summer.
The areas around the city’s beaches are ideal for those who want to go shopping in boutiques or spend some time in one of the city’s trendy wine bars. Those who visit in July can take in one of the many performances of the Nice Jazz Festival.
